The Sindh Forest Department, Government of Sindh, held an agreement signing ceremony with the successful bidders for the implementation of the project titled “Carbon Removal through Forestation in Riverine Forests of Jamshoro and Matiari Districts under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode.” The project aims to restore degraded riverine forests through Afforestation, Reforestation and Revegetation (ARR) activities to enhance carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable livelihoods. The initiative will be implemented over an eligible plantation area of approximately 34,995 hectares of reserved riverine forests, located along the Indus River in the districts of Jamshoro and Matiari.
Under the competitive bidding process, the project was divided into three packages. Meskay & Famtee Trading Company (Private) Limited emerged as the successful bidder for two packages covering approximately 13,259.6 hectares and 11,772.2 hectares, while Sequerra Global (Private) Limited secured one package covering about 9,963.2 hectares. The project will be executed under a long-term concession framework, enabling the private sector to design, finance, build, operate, maintain and transfer the plantations while generating carbon credits from restored forest ecosystems. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in promoting climate-resilient forestry, leveraging carbon markets to support ecosystem restoration and livelihood benefits for the local community and for the prosperity of the province of Sindh and Pakistan.
