Meeting about Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever situation in Pakistan

Short Description

A significant session was planned on March 8, 2024, to exchange insights and guide future strategy to control spike of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) which is an infection caused by a tick-borne virus


Detail Description

This disease is one of the major zoonotic diseases in Pakistan. Pakistan witnessed its first case of CCHF in 1976 and since then its cases are being reported on regular basis. Spikes in cases are mostly observed around Eid-ul-Adha. During the year 2023, cases were reported in Baluchistan province in which spread from infected persons to the hospital staff was also reported. However, no national control strategy in the context of One Health is available. . Secretary of the Forest & Wildlife Department, Najam Ahmed Shah,  converged thoughts with the FAO mission to discuss the Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever situation in Pakistan. The purpose of the meeting was to evaluate and develop a control strategy for CCHF.
